Call for Applications for the Alice Tay Memorial Award

The Australia-China Council is calling for applications for the Alice Tay Memorial Award, awarded for the promotion of human rights in China.

The $15,000 award will be made in May 2008 to an Australian who has made a significant contribution to improving the understanding of human rights in China and who is also currently seeking funding for a project related to human rights in China.

Applications close on Monday 31 March 2008. Instructions about the application procedure and selection criteria are located on the Australia-China Council (ACC) website at www.dfat.gov.au/acc/rap/atm_award.html

Prior to her death in April 2004, Professor Alice Tay AM was a member of the Australia-China Council, President of the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) from 1998 to 2003, a member of the Australia-China Human Rights Dialogue, a member of the Advisory Council to the Asia Society AustralAsia Centre and a member of the International Academy of Comparative Law, Paris. As President of HREOC, Professor Tay played a pivotal role in the Australia-China Human Rights Technical Cooperation Program.
