New Human Rights Commissioner

Professor Alice Tay, President of the Human Rights & Equal Opportunity Commission has welcomed the announcement today of Dr Sev Ozdowski AM as Human Rights Commissioner and Acting Disability Discrimination Commissioner.

Dr Ozdowski succeeds former Human Rights Commissioner Mr Chris Sidoti whose term expired in August.

"Dr Ozdowski brings wide-ranging experience in many areas of human rights - in race relations, multicultural affairs, human rights law, community relations and education," Professor Tay says. "His background as an eminent sociologist will also contribute enormously to the broader work of the Commission.

"We are delighted that Dr Ozdowski will take up his appointment in time for the 2000 Human Rights Awards ceremony on 10 December. We look forward to welcoming him to the Commission on that occasion."
