The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission and Reconciliation Australia invite you to the Melbourne launch of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner's 2003 annual reports on social justice and native title.

Social Justice Report 2003
This year's Social Justice Report considers:
- progress towards reconciliation, with a focus on government accountability mechanisms;
- progress in the Council of Australian Government's whole-of-government community trials;
- processes for Indigenous participation in decision making, including reform of ATSIC and capacity building initiatives;
- progress in addressing family violence in Indigenous communities and in addressing petrol sniffing on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Lands; and
- progress in addressing Indigenous disadvantage.
Native Title Report 2003
The Native Title Report 2003 evaluates native title as a framework for economic and social development in Indigenous communities. The report considers:
- native title and international standards on development and sustainability;
- native title policies and practices of governments throughout Australia as a framework for economic and social development; and
- comparisons to legal and policy frameworks in Canada and the USA.
