www.humanrights.gov.au to make human rights more user friendly
The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) website now boasts a new visual design, improved menu and accessibility features set to make information-finding easier and faster for all, HREOC President John von Doussa said today.
“A new homepage features a sharper, more professional look, but most importantly, has the latest information on HREOC's news, campaigns and inquiries,” Mr von Doussa said.
“It will also make finding publications, submissions, complaints information and our latest education resources much easier.”
“There is a new Age Discrimination section, and our popular ‘education’, ‘legal research and resources’, and 'about HREOC’ sections have also been made more prominent and functional.”
“A new ‘media centre’ features the latest news releases with a link to more news items, speeches and opinion pieces written by HREOC’s commissioners.
Mr von Doussa said the website also featured new accessibility features including: a change font size button enabling browsers to increase text size across the site, keyboard-based shortcuts, and non-graphical navigation text catering to the needs of people with a vision impairment.
“There’s an easy-to-use search feature, print-friendly pages and an electronic mailing list people can join to receive the latest news,” Mr von Doussa said.
HREOC’s website is very popular with teachers, students, journalists, politicians, academics, community organisations and overseas enquirers recording more than 12.6 million page views in 2006-2007.
