Two weeks left to nominate for Human Rights Medal and Awards

There are only two weeks left to submit nominations for the 2008 Human Rights Medal and Awards.

The Human Rights Commissioner, Graeme Innes said, “These are prestigious awards that are all the more impressive because of the fact that the winners are people and organisations, from all around Australia and from right next door, that have selflessly taken steps and put in effort to make Australia better and to assist our society.”

“These are often uncelebrated efforts and commitments people have made in their day-to-day lives to issues of human rights, social justice and equality,” he said.

“With only two weeks to go, we urge anyone who intends to nominate, or knows someone or an organisation that should nominate, to submit a nomination for one of these awards.”

Nominations are being accepted for the Human Rights Medal, Young People’s Human Rights Medal, and Human Rights Awards categories of Community (Individual), Community (Organisation), Law (sponsored by the Law Council of Australia), Literature (Non-fiction), Print Media, Television and Radio.

Winners will be presented with their Medals and Awards at a gala luncheon ceremony to be held on Human Rights Day, 10 December 2008, in Sydney.
