Commissioner roles change from 12 July 2009
As announced by the federal Attorney-General today, there are a number of changes to statutory roles within the Australian Human Rights Commission, effective 12 July 2009.
The Australian Human Rights Commission welcomes these changes.
Beginning 12 July 2009:
- The role of Human Rights Commissioner will be performed by Australian Human Rights Commission President, Ms Catherine Branson QC, taking over from Mr Graeme Innes; and
- The role of Race Discrimination Commissioner will be performed by Mr Graeme Innes, taking over from Mr Tom Calma.
Therefore, from 12 July 2009, the following role responsibilities will apply:
- Ms Catherine Branson QC will be both Australian Human Rights Commission President and Human Rights Commissioner;
- Mr Graeme Innes will be both Race Discrimination Commissioner and Disability Discrimination Commissioner.
Until 12 July 2009, present arrangements will remain in place.
