McCallum re-elected to UN treaty body

Disability Discrimination Commissioner Graeme Innes expressed his pleasure today at the re-election of Professor Ron McCallum AO to the UN treaty body for the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities.

"Professor McCallum has made a very positive contribution to the committee during the first two years of his membership, including his role as its Chair during the last twelve months." Commissioner Innes said.  "It is very pleasing, and a great honour to Australia, that he will now serve a further four year term."

Professor McCallum is well-known in Australia as a leading authority on industrial relations law.  He is also a person with a disability.

"Professor McCallum is the only Australian currently serving on a UN treaty body, and his participation continues Australia's leading role in the development of the Disability Convention," Commissioner Innes said.
