038. Tenth Anniversary of the Bringing Them Home Report

The commemoration will celebrate what has been achieved assess what is still needed make proposals on the way ahead. Speakers will include Lowitja O’Donoghue, Inaugural Chair of ATSIC, Tom Calma, Indigenous Social Justice Commissioner, HREOC, Henry Reynolds, the historian whose 14 books have cast fresh light on the encounter between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

A conference for service providers, Indigenous people, policy workers, and others interested. What action on the recommendations has there been in the ACT area? What still needs to be done? What are the priorities for action?

040. Remembering the children and Celebrating survival

Remembering the Children

A simple ceremony for members of the Stolen Generations will be led by Cecil Dickson, a Ngunnawal Elder. This will remember Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were taken from their families, those still searching for their families, and those who never found them. Open to all who wish to take part. Limited seating available.

Celebrating Survival

A family festival which will include traditional food and games, a sausage sizzle, fresh food & coffee, community and information stalls and children's activities.

001. The Torres Strait Islander Regional Conference

Hosted by the Bishop of North Queensland, the Torres Strait Islander Regional Conference is being held on Moa Island in the Torres Strait from 25 - 27 May. The conference will be attended by Anglican clergy members and Torres Strait Island Council members. The conference will be honouring the anniversary of the ‘Bringing Them Home’ Report both during the conference and liturgically.

003. “Their Spirit Still Shines” – Gala Evening,

Join with the Patrons and Board of Reconciliation South Australia to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the 1967 Referendum at a stand-up reception at the South Australian Museum. This event will also feature the official launch of the Museum’s exhibition ‘The Journey – 40 Years On’.

004. Sorry Day

Join with the Journey of Healing Association (SA) to commemorate this important day at the Migration Museum. The day will feature Aboriginal dancers and signers, guest speakers, stalls and a free BBQ. Afterwards, ANTaR will be holding a forum for South Australian Aboriginal people to reflect upon the significance of the 1967 Referendum and what is required in constitutional reform to meet the needs of Aboriginal people today, and into the future.

Join with parishioners of St Peter’s Anglican Cathedral for a special service to celebrate Reconciliation Week.

006. AFL Dreamtime Round - Port Adelaide Power vs Geelong Cats

Watch Port Adelaide Power take on the Geelong Cats at AAMI Stadium, as part of the AFL’s Dreamtime Round. Pre-match curtain raiser will feature Indigenous players and plenty of Reconciliation activities.

007. Reconciliation Public Rally and March

May 27, 2007 is the 40th Anniversary of the 1967 Referendum – and the first significant opportunity for the public to show its support for the Reconciliation movement since the bridge-crossings in 2000. Gather at Tarndanyangga to show your support and march alongside thousands to Elder Park.

008. 40th Anniversary of the 1967 Referendum – Public BBQ and Family Day

This public event is an opportunity to celebrate survival and achievement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. Once the march arrives at Elder Park, enjoy a four-hour program of performances, speeches and children’s workshops. Visit community stalls, grab a free BBQ lunch and enjoy the entertainment by the river.

009. Aboriginal Flag Raising at the Festival Centre

As a mark of respect and ongoing commitment to the Reconciliation process, the Adelaide Festival Centre will be raising the Aboriginal flag in a ceremony at the end of the public march.

010. Sundays at the Adelaide Festival Centre

Soak up the atmosphere at the Adelaide Festival Centre’s Sunday Market, which will present a special mix of fine quality arts and crafts, all made by local and Australian artists. For the Anniversary of the 1967 Referendum, the Arts Market will include Indigenous performers, arts and crafts.

011. Launch – Bloodlines (documentary)

Join with Tandanya to celebrate the launch of Bloodlines. This short documentary commemorates the 40th Anniversary of the 1967 Referendum through tracing the Aboriginal political and historical experience, pre and post the Referendum. Produced by Gina Rings with assistance from Tandanya and Reconciliation South Australia.

012. Launch – Reconciliation Week Festival of Indigenous Film

Join with Tandanya for the launch of the Reconciliation Week Festival of Indigenous Film – A program of short films and documentaries highlighting the diversity within the Indigenous community.

013. Community Reconciliation

Join with Ngoppon Together Inc. and the community of Murray Bridge for a barbeque day, including performances by local Aboriginal dancers, a free concert and a key note speaker.

014. When I Was Young – A Youth Event

An inspiring activity for kindergarten children in the South West District, to sit alongside our Aboriginal elders and community members and hear stories of “when I was young,” whilst playing, creating with paint, play-dough and using the creative resources of the kindergarten. Neighbouring pre-school students are welcome.

015. One People, One Place, One Future

Join with the Northern Metropolitan Regional Reconciliation Group for a free BBQ lunch and enjoy music, entertainment and information displays.

016. Launch of Reconciliation Statement & Action Plan

Metropolitan Domiciliary Care will launch their newly developed Reconciliation Statement and Reconciliation Action Plan at a public event at Tandanya.

017. Launch - Art from Areyonga

An exhibition of 20 paintings and craft work by artists (including children) from the remote Central Australian community of Areyonga.

018. Launch - Ways of Belonging: Reconciliation and the Symbolic Value of the Public Space

A photo-documentary exhibition presented as a social narrative of the exclusion and inclusion of Indigenous peoples in the public space from 1960 to the present through public art, community art, commemorative plaques and memorials.

019. Reconciliation Youth Disco

This popular disco is an annual highlight for Indigenous and non-Indigenous young people under 18 and their families. Come and party with loads of entertainment including DJs, break dancing and deadly cultural performances. Grab a bite to eat, some resources and dance into the evening.

020. Reconciliation BBQ

Join with the community of Copley for a Reconciliation Week BBQ in the Mid-North. This event will also celebrate the installation of a solar water purification unit in Copley. Organised by Turkindi Inc., with assistance from Reconciliation South Australia.

021.  Reconciliation – Together (Mt Gambier)

A lunchtime BBQ run by Community Corrections in Mt Gambier for clients and members of the community, including domestic and family violence groups. Organised by Community Corrections, Department of Correctional Services, Mt Gambier, with assistance from Reconciliation South Australia.

022. Aboriginal Food and Plant Trail

Join the Tauondi guides as they reveal how plants have sustained Aboriginal life for thousands of years by providing food, shelter, tools and medicine. Meet at the gate, Plane Tree Drive. Great for schools!

023. The Butterfly Kids by Imbala Jarjum

Part of Something on Saturday this performance is a traditional presentation with a contemporary influence, depicting Indigenous people’s spiritual connections with the Australian environment. It will include live traditional dance, music, body art, storytelling, demonstration of the didgeridoo. There will also be Indigenous weaving and jewellery workshops and a sausage sizzle.

024.  Colebrook Home Eden Hills Reunion

Tjiti Tjuta and the Blackwood Reconciliation Group will be hosting a reunion of people who were residents of the Colebook Home as children. There will be an unveiling of a mural created by Kunyi McInerney, a Kaurna welcome and smoking ceremony, cultural activities, entertainment, a shared BBQ and refreshments. Organised by Tjiti Tjuta and the Blackwood Reconciliation Group, with assistance from Reconciliation South Australia.

025. Reconciliation Youth Ambassador’s Ball

Come and celebrate the spirit of Reconciliation with young Indigenous and non-Indigenous high school couples. The evening will comprise a presentation to the ambassadors, a three course dinner, lots of live entertainment and a range of guest speakers and presenters. If you cannot attend, why not sponsor a student to go?

026. Campbelltown Reconciliation BBQ

A BBQ to celebrate Reconciliation in the Campbelltown Council District – it will include a traditional welcome, community stalls, music and dancing. Organised by Aboriginal Centre for Information and Arts in SA, with the assistance of Campbelltown Council.

027. The Journey – 40 Years On

An exhibition telling the history of significant Aboriginal events that led to the 1967 Referendum to amend the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act 1900. This exhibition will also feature significant Aboriginal events after 1967 Referendum.

028. ‘Vote Yes’: the 1967 Referendum – Touring Exhibition (Regional South Australia)

In partnership with Reconciliation South Australia, the History Trust of SA has created a travelling display on South Australia’s part in the 1967 Referendum on the constitutional status of Aboriginal people.

029. ‘Vote Yes’: the 1967 Referendum – Tauondi College

See the History Trust of SA’s travelling display on South Australia’s part in the 1967 Referendum on the constitutional status of Aboriginal people. The first showing of the display will be at Tauondi College.

030. Never Turning Back

A warm and humorous community theatre piece that tells stories of Aboriginal peoples and their experience around the themes of the Referendum and the events that have followed providing a base for moving forward together.

031. Reconciliation Week Festival of Indigenous Film

A program of short films and documentaries highlighting the diversity within the Indigenous community – presented daily during Reconciliation Week.

032. Why A Referendum?

Learn about Referendums held to change the Australian Constitution – including the 1967 vote – by visiting the Electoral Education Centre for a free session, provided by the Australian Electoral Commission and the State Electoral Office.

033. “Indigenuity” (Oaklands Park)

Two complementary exhibitions of visual art, running concurrently – one featuring paintings by young aerosol artists, the other featuring artwork in a range of media by contemporary Indigenous artists.

034. Looking For Answers … What Was the Question… ?

A theatrical presentation about the 1967 Referendum in a public tour of the Riverland – including a welcome to country, Indigenous dance, a small play and a float developed with the ‘Knee High Puppeteers’. Produced by Mark Reynolds, with assistance from Reconciliation South Australia.

035. 1967 Referendum and Reconciliation Education Tour

An educational tour featuring political and historical facts of the Referendum, with music presentations on reconciliatory, environmental and cultural themes. Produced by Bon Darlington, with assistance from Reconciliation South Australia.

036. Umoona Community BBQ

This event will bring together elders, parents and youth of Coober Pedy to talk about old ways, new ways and Reconciliation. Organised by Umoona Community Council, with assistance from Reconciliation South Australia.

042. Discovering Indigenous Australia - Free Workshop for High School students

A free full-day workshop aimed at high school students is taking place as a part of Reconciliation Week. Key speakers will talk to students about Indigenous issues such as cross cultural awareness; Government policies, past and present; Reconciliation - overcoming disadvantage; sustainability of remote and rural communities and PALS. Schools are being invited to nominate up to six students and one teacher/guardian to attend this event.
