To whom it may concern,
DJA has recently become aware of the Australasian Railway Association's application for provision exemptions in relation to the Disability Discrimination Act (Cth). Service providers have an obligation under the DDA to start making their services accessible to people with disabilities in compliance to the provisions set in the Transport Disability Standards.
We believe this is inexcusable with the coming commonwealth games and the time ARA have already had to implement these standards. We believe ARA should not be given another 5 years to make public transport accessible because we have waited long enough already.
We do not support the request for exemption under the DDA Transport Standard by the ARA and urge HREOC to reject this request.
