Subject: Att David Mason re Rex airlines
Hi David
Just wanted to touch base and put my two cents worth into the exemption requested by Rex.
Generally I think their application has merit aside from a number of things
- Only allowing two wheelchair passengers per flight is not right. What they should be saying is that no more than two passengers who are unable to walk at all should be limited to the 2 passengers
- Online books should still be allowable. A section on the REX website should be made available for passengers with special needs which needs to be filled out before final payment can be made. Anyone not filling out the form or contacting the customer service centre 48 hours prior to the flight, cannot be guaranteed access to the flight
- Making a booking 48 hours before a flight is also not right, especially for business people with disabilities or those who have to make an emergency flight for family reasons. As long as there is space on the flight and the appropriate steps have been taken by the customer i.e. contacting the customer service centre or accessible online booking form, then the staff should appropriately trained to assist without extensive notice.
- The limit of one wheelchair per flight is also problematic as people may need a commode, off road type wheelchair or other type to be taken for business, recreation or social reasons. A weight limit of both that be less than 64 kgs is appropriate.
I fly Rex from Albury many times and the staff are fantastic, however the above clarification still allows reasonable safety and operations for both staff and passengers
