Commission-wide human rights education activities
One of the core functions of the Australian Human Rights Commission is to provide education and public awareness around human rights.
The Commission considers that human rights education is fundamental to building a human rights culture where the rights of all people in Australia are understood and respected, and should be incorporated into every level of general education.
Generally, human rights education is covered at the Commission by:
- the human rights education resources for teachers –rightsED - which features resources and activities for teachers and students to use in the classroom
- national inquiries and reports
- complaints handling services conciliation and training
- media releases and editorial, speeches and opinion pieces
- publications and CD/DVDs
- annual Human Rights Medals and Awards and other events such as seminars and forums
- community programs (such as the National Indigenous Legal Advocacy Course)
- Good Practice, Good Business resources for employers
- submissions.
