Notice of application for temporary exemption:
Griffith City Council (trading as Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre)
The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission has received an application (attached in MS Word format) from Griffith City Council (trading as Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre) for a temporary exemption pursuant to s 44(1) of the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 (Cth) in order to operate a two-hour women’s only session for the pool and gymnasium at the Griffith Regional Aquatic Centre on a regular basis.
The exemption is sought for five (5) years.
Requests for submissions
The Commission is presently considering this exemption application, and invites interested parties to make submissions, preferably by email to legal@humanrights.gov.au.
Submissions may also be addressed by mail to the Legal Services Unit, Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission, GPO Box 5218, Sydney NSW 2001.
To promote open public discussion and exchange of views, the Commission intends to post submissions made electronically on its Internet site. Any requests for material to be treated as confidential should be clearly indicated.
