What is the Listening Tour about?

The Listening Tour is an opportunity for the community to have a say on the issues that are important in building a fair and equal society for women and men in Australia.

The Sex Discrimination Commissioner will be travelling around the country to hear what you have to say about economic independence for women, work and family balance across the life cycle and freedom from discrimination, harassment and violence. You can also raise issues that are not included in these themes.

How can I participate in the Listening Tour?

You can participate in the Listening Tour by attending a community consultation forum. The dates, times and venues for these can be found here.

Because of our limited resources we can’t get to everyone which is why we have set up this website, so that you can make your voice heard on-line. You can also keep up to date with the Commissioner Broderick’s travels by checking the Listening Tour Diary regularly.

I can’t attend a consultation. Can I still participate?

Yes, you can participate through this website. You can read about the issues here and then make your comments here.

Posts to the Listening Tour blogs will be moderated according to the Acceptable Use Policy. Posts will generally show up on the blog within 48 working hours.

Where a post does not comply with the Acceptable Use Policy it will be removed from the forum. Posts may be edited by the moderator for length or to remove unacceptable parts of contributions

Can I make an anonymous contribution?

Yes you can, but unless you provide us with contact details and a name we are unable to let you know about the findings of the Listening Tour.

What will happen to my contribution?

The information that we get from the community will be used to inform our strategic plan. Your comments may also be posted on our website. Your details will remain confidential unless you indicate that you would like them posted. This means that you will have a say in what issues the Sex Discrimination Commissioner decides to make a priority for her five year term.
