Elizabeth Broderick

Video transcript for Listening Tour website

Hi, my name is Elizabeth Broderick and I am the Federal Sex Discrimination Commissioner and Commissioner responsible for Age Discrimination. Welcome to my Listening Tour.

I‘m often asked - what will my agenda be and what issues will I be focusing on. Of course, I come with my own ideas and experiences, but I have much to learn. To do that, I must first listen. So I am here to listen to you, the women and men of Australia, to understand what issues are important to you.

As the mother of an 11 year old son and a 9 year old daughter, I am interested in building a fair and equal society. I want my children and yours, to grow up in a world where we have equal representation of women and men in leadership and senior positions; a world where men and women both have the opportunity to be involved in family life and paid work, where caring is valued and shared and where we can live a life free from discrimination, harassment and violence.

I want your ideas on how we can make this happen. This is what my Listening Tour is about.

I will be travelling to all states and territories with my team to hear what you have to say about equality between women and men in 2007. There are many important issues facing our community at this time.

I will use the information from the Listening Tour to set my priorities for my five year term. I look forward to hearing from you through this website and I encourage you to keep visiting the site to learn of regular updates on my travels.

I look forward to sharing this journey with you.
