Welcome to this interactive site for my Listening Tour. The Listening Tour is an opportunity for you to make your voice heard on the issues that matter.
This website provides information about my role and the Commission, details for the Listening Tour and how to make your contribution.
As the Sex Discrimination Commissioner, my responsibilities involve conducting research, policy and education work designed to promote greater equality between men and women. My role is quite a broad one: to promote equality between men and women and work towards the elimination of discrimination based on gender.
This means highlighting the rights of individuals and communities, as well as the responsibility of all to respect the rights of others to develop a fair and cohesive society.
Since my appointment I have identified three key themes that I believe are important to ensuring equality between men and women. These themes are:
- Economic independence for women
- Work and family balance across the life cycle
- Freedom from discrimination, harassment and violence

The aim of my Listening Tour is to hear what you have to say about these themes and also have a conversation about how we can work together to influence change. I am eager to hear about your personal experiences and find out what is most important to you. Any issues that are not included under these themes are welcome too.
I will be using this information to inform my five year agenda for my term as Sex Discrimination Commissioner.
It is my hope that at the end of the five years I will be able to leave the job knowing that I have listened to the community and made a difference where it counts.
