"Shaping our future: discussions on disability rights"

Disability Discrimination Commissioner, Alastair McEwin conducted a national consultation to help guide the development of his priorities and seek input from the disability community on how he can most effectively work to advance the rights of people with a disability.  These consultations aimed to engage with the disability community and gather information and knowledge on the extent and nature of disability discrimination and the human rights of people with disability in Australia.  The focus of the consultations was guided by the Commissioner's National Consultation Discussion paper which sets out five proposed areas of priority as being:

  • Employment
  • Education
  • Housing
  • The criminal justice system
  • Implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

Consultations were held in each capital city and some regional centres between October 2016 - March 2017.

Findings from the national consultations will be published on this page in April 2017.
