Photographer: Anthony Byrne

Title: Asylum #4

Asylum #4 by Anthony Byrne. Burmese girl in asylum camp in Maw Sot. In traditional face paint.

Comments:

Approximately 80,000 Burmese have fled the Burmese dictatorship and have sought asylum in Maw Sot. Many migrants are illegal and are not recognised by the Thai government. As a result, their children cannot received state education. The state has denied the right to primary education for Burmese children; however private citizens fund primary education to ensure justice and dignity for all, even those whose status is extralegal.
