Pregnancy Guidelines (2001) summary

Pregnancy Guidelines (2001)

The primary aim
of the Guidelines is to help workplace participants to understand and
fulfill their obligations under the federal Sex Discrimination Act 1984.
The Guidelines cover issues of pregnancy discrimination through all
aspects of the employment relationship, including recruitment, employment
and dismissal.

The Guidelines
also address the overlap between discrimination, industrial and occupational
health and safety obligations to help people better understand and adhere
to the existing frameworks.

They provide practical
advice for employers, employer organisations, unions and employees on
the management of pregnancy in the workplace. The Guidelines answer
difficult questions, plus questions some employers have been reluctant
to ask.
