Age discrimination campaign underway in Tasmania

Discrimination Age Discrimination
Dr Kay Patterson, Age Discrimination Commissioner

Australia's Age Discrimination Commissioner, the Hon Dr Kay Patterson AO, will be travelling around Tasmania this week with COTA Tasmania’s CEO, Sue Leitch, to launch an educational bookmark to raise awareness of elder abuse and talk about the rights of older Tasmanians.

In collaboration with COTA Tasmania and other organisations, Dr Patterson will distribute the bookmark to urban and regional centres.

"Elder abuse continues to be a scourge on older Tasmanians but there are services in Tasmania that can help,” said Dr Patterson.

"The bookmark is an innovative way of providing key information to recognise signs of elder abuse and share the national elder abuse phone line 1800ELDERHelp (1800 353 374), so that Tasmanians who think they, or someone they know, is being abused, can reach out for support," she said.
