There are only a few days left to get your nominations in for the Human Rights Awards, so nominate today to make sure those who deserve to be recognised, are recognised.

Each year, the annual Human Rights Awards acknowledges the wonderful work being done in our communities by ordinary Australians, organisations, businesses and community groups to further human rights and freedoms in Australia. We all know someone, or perhaps a business or organisation, that deserves to be applauded for their devotion to making Australia a better place and their commitment to ensuring our rights and freedoms are enjoyed by all, on an equal basis.

This is the time to celebrate and acknowledge their hard work and achievements by nominating them today.

Previous winners in the prestigious Human Rights Medal category include The Hon Peter McClellan AM QC and Chrissie Foster, Johnathan Thurston, Pat Anderson, Peter Greste, Ian Thorpe, the Rt Hon. Malcom Fraser, Ron Merkel QC, Sister Clare Condon and Dorothy Hoddinott.

The nine Awards categories are:

  • Human Rights Medal
  • Young People’s Human Rights Medal
  • Business Award
  • Government
  • Racism. It Stops With Me Award
  • Media Award
  • Tony Fitzgerald Memorial Community Individual Award 
  • Community Organisation Award
  • Law Award
