Are you aged 18-21 years and interested in improving consent and sex education in Australia?  

Do you have a passion for research, communications, gender equity, quality respectful relationships education, and/or the prevention of sexual violence?  

The Commission is looking for people aged 18-21 years to form a national Youth Advisory Group (YAG) to support the study, On Your Terms: Youth survey on consent and sex ed.  

This study has been funded by the Australian Government Department of Education and findings will inform improvements to consent, respectful relationships, and sexuality education in Australia.  

This is a paid opportunity that will run until late 2025.  

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking young people with something to say about:  

  • respectful relationships, consent and sexuality education  
  • sexual health and positive, non-judgmental attitudes to consensual sex
  • research, communications, policy and advocacy  
  • gender equity and the prevention of sexual violence.  

This opportunity is open to anyone aged 18-21 years living in Australia with access to technology. You will need to be available to attend 6-7 online meetings between May 2024 and late 2025.

We encourage applications from young people who are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, LGBTQIA+, from rural and regional areas, from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds and religions, young people with a disability, and those who are neurodivergent. 

What does the role involve?  

  • Participating in 6-7 online meetings. These will be held on Wednesdays between 3-5pm (EST).
  • Reviewing materials prior to meetings (e.g. brochures, survey questions, promotional materials).
  • Providing input and advice on study design and methodology, communications and advocacy, analysis and reporting, and the release of the findings (all described in the Terms of Reference).  

What will I gain as a YAG member?  

You will learn and build skills in the areas of research, analysis, policy, communications, and knowledge translation, and receive support and professional development opportunities.  

YAG members will receive a $120 Visa gift card for each 2-hour meeting they attend. Any additional engagement will be agreed in advance and be paid via gift card at $60 per hour (capped at 3 hours). Where pre-meeting preparation is required and agreed to, members will be paid via gift card for their time (at $60 per hour and capped at $300).
