The Department's submission, entitled 'Overcoming Equity of Access and Isolation', provides a range of data on Queensland government schools and school students and specifically addresses provision of education to Indigenous children and to children with special needs.

CQ Connections

CQ Connections is an initiative of Central Queensland University. It has a range of programs to improve participation and retention of tertiary students from low socio-economic groups. The submission details research which was conducted to identify the barriers to accessing and succeeding at tertiary study, as perceived by Year 11 and 12 low income students from 5 Central Queensland schools.

Submission in four sections

  1. Diocesan context for Catholic education giving the number and general locations of Catholic schools
  2. Rural and remote schools - demographic data including student population by year level, sex, Aboriginality, non-English speaking background and disability
  3. Rural and remote schools - staffing and other provisions including funding formulae and a description of opportunities for boarding in the diocese
  4. Rural and remote schools - support and initiatives including professional development for staff, curriculum and equity support to schools and teacher accommodation.

The Appendix is entitled "Technology Planning Initiative".

Isolated Children's Parents' Association Queensland

On accessibility the submission notes that "many students living in rural and isolated areas are unable to easily access all levels of schools - including preschool and tertiary education". The submission also covers the quality of rural curriculum and access to information technologies, education for children with disabilities and other issues.
