Overview
The Disability Discrimination Act 1992 Cth (the Act) is supported by additional standards and guidelines.
These explain in more detail the rights and responsibilities that individuals and organisations have for providing equal access and opportunities for people with disability.
What are standards and guidelines?
Standards are legally binding regulations set by the Attorney-General under the Act.
Guidelines (or ‘Advisory Notes’) are issued by the Commission to help people and organisations:
- understand their rights
- comply with their responsibilities under the Act and the standards.
Standards and guidelines can be made about:
- employment
- education
- public transport services
- public premises
- accommodation
- administration of Commonwealth laws and programs.
