Operation of the Copyright Act
All material contained on this website is subject to copyright and the operation of the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth) (‘the Copyright Act’).
Generally, copyright is infringed when a person uses copyright material, or a substantial part of copyright material, without the permission of the copyright owner. A ‘substantial part’ is not assessed in simple percentage terms, but based on such factors as whether the part is important, distinctive or essential in the context of the overall work.
However, the Copyright Act permits ‘fair dealing’ with copyright material, such as for research, study, criticism, review, parody, satire, or reporting news. There are also special provisions relating to education institutions.
For more information on the Copyright Act, visit http://www.copyright.org.au/.
